Signal error (M1170) is displayed on the iMOW® display. What can I do?

Note: Before you prepare your STIHL product for use, put it into operation, clean, transport, store, maintain, repair, troubleshoot or dispose of it, please read the instruction manual carefully. Note: This article applies only to the RMI models 422 (P,PC), 522 C and 632 (C,P). 

1. Docking station is turned off

  • Turn on the docking station and give your iMOW® the command to mow. 
  • Check the LED on the docking station – : the red LED on the docking station must be lit continuously during operation. If the LED flashes rapidly, check the wire signal.

2. Your iMOW® does not receive a wire signal during operation

  • Check the power supply to the docking station. If the robotic mower detects a wire signal again, it resumes the interrupted mowing process. 
  • The perimeter wire is not connected correctly to the docking station or there is a broken wire – the red LED on the docking station flashes rapidly. Connect the perimeter wire correctly to the docking station and connect loose wire ends using STIHL wire connectors.
  • Pay attention to possible sources of interference and remove them. Metal, iron oxides and magnetic or electrically conductive materials as well as old perimeter wire installations can interfere with mowing operation. 

3. The iMOW® or docking station is outside the permitted temperature range:

  • The operating temperature of the iMOW® or docking station should be between + 5° and + 40° Celsius. Outside of this temperature range, the iMOW® will not work and also will not send a signal. 
  • Please ensure that the iMOW® is only used in a temperature range of + 5° to + 40° Celsius. Let the iMOW® cool down or bring the robotic mower into a warm room. 

4. Your iMOW® remains in the mowing area or is outside the mowing area

  • If your iMOW® robotic mower is outside the mowing area, bring it back into the mowing area. 
  • If an error message is displayed on the iMOW® display, it can be acknowledged with "OK", or you can contact your dealer. 
  • Note that special heights (S1-S4) are only suitable for very flat mowing areas, such as football fields. If you nevertheless choose special heights, the robotic mower could get stuck in the mowing area in case of uneven surfaces. After 48 hours, the iMOW® switches off automatically. 

5. The docking station or electronic components were replaced

  • Pair your iMOW® robotic mower and docking station
