Edge Optimisation Function
Starting with software version 7.9.4, the „Boundary Optimisation“ feature is available in the MY iMOW® app. In the „System“ menu, you can turn boundary optimisation on or off under „Mowing“. In the MY iMOW® app, you will also find short explanations of how the iMOW® behaves when edge optimisation is on or off.
Please contact your local STIHL dealer for a software update.
Areas that can be travelled on
The perimeter wire can be laid without a gap along surfaces that can be travelled on, such as patios, paved paths and lawn edging stones or slabs. A small gap between the perimeter wire and the surfaces that can be travelled on enables edge-to-edge mowing. The perimeter wire is laid parallel to the surface that can be travelled on, without a gap.
It should be noted that the area that can be travelled on (e.g. lawn edging stone) must have at least 24 cm free for navigation. In addition, the maximum height difference between the lawn and the obstacle must not exceed 1.5 cm.

One way to subsequently mow closer to the edge in places with passable obstacles is to adjust the setting for "Manoeuvring behaviour" in the MY iMOW® app. This setting can be found under "System" > "Mowing" > "Exceeding the perimeter wire". With this setting, you decide how far the iMOW® should cross the boundary wire, allowing the edge to be mowed further. Please note that the default setting is based on the wire spacing of the iMOW® Ruler and that exceeding the perimeter wire in any larger manner in the whole garden must be checked for any possible complications.
Obstacles that cannot be travelled on and high obstacles
For high obstacles that cannot be travelled over, such as walls, high patios etc., the robotic mower is set to travel as closely and reliably along the edge as possible. The iMOW® Ruler must be used to measure the distance so that the perimeter wire is laid at the correct distance from the edge of the lawn and obstacles. The perimeter wire is installed at a distance of 37 cm (length: 1x iMOW® Ruler) laid parallel to the surface that cannot be travelled over.

The width of the unmown edge is largely determined by the conditions in the garden: If the iMOW® robotic mower can drive beyond the lawn, for example because flat patio slabs or lawn edging bricks (min. a = 24 cm) border the lawn, there will be no unmown edge left.

If, on the other hand, the lawn borders solid, upright objects such as a wall, an unmown border strip of approx. 24 cm is left by the iMOW® models. This strip can be used for sowing flower seeds, for example, to create a flowering area for insects.

Please observe the following additional distances when laying the boundary wire:
- For surfaces that can be driven on (e.g. paths, ground-level patios): 0 cm
- For lanes: 15 cm
- For high obstacles (e.g. walls, trees): 37 cm
- minimum wire clearance in confined areas: 37 cm
- For water features and potential sudden drops (edges, steps): 100 cm
